A randomized controlled trial from investigators in Australia suggests that 8 weeks of supervised exercise training can reduce the frequency of exacerbations in patients with bronchiectasis. Previous studies of pulmonary rehabilitation have shown improvements in walking distance and quality of life but have been too small to evaluate an effect on exacerbations. This RCT included 85 patients and found a significant reduction in frequency of exacerbations and time to next exacerbation, along with the expect improvements in walking distance and dyspnoea.
